On this bearing structure our main construction is literary hanging as complex grid.

But getting them connected to the ridge and not least connecting the ridge beams themselves needed some very specific steel joints. We teamed up with blacksmith students, who lasercut and welded these amazing structures that fitted every individual rafter and beam perfectly. Making these solely by hand would have been extreme.

It has taken a lot of prototyping, testing the 3D-models worth in real life – is this angle ever gonna happen? Is this joint strong enough? We ended up with natural joints between vertical and horizontal parts allowing us to put on double curved surfaces. We spend around 200 1240 x 2400 mm sheets milled out on our CNC – adding engraving made it a large but easy puzzle. The material is OSB made out of waste wood from softwood forests.

An inventor has spend 25 years developing this product, but without commercial success. The building industry is a conservative one; the double weight of these sheets (compared to standard) is simply scaring carpenters away who already know their “tricks”. The sheets are heavy, but work as small CNC milled parts.

The so-called U-value (overall heat transfer coefficient) is 0,45 W/m2K – as good as many standard commercial products. It doesn’t really burn and its great amount of salt keeps rodents away! It’s loose fill and therefor easy to put into the boxes in our construction. In our 3D-model we calculate how many kilo grams every single box needs.
